Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Support

In Virtuozzo Hybrid Server 7.5 Update 7 we’ve added full support for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, available on virtual machines and as a container template. Ubuntu 24.04 LTS enhances security and optimizes system performance, making it an excellent foundation for virtualized workloads using this very popular Linux distribution.

Service providers now have the flexibility to use Ubuntu 24.04 LTS as the basis for VPS offering and other products, allowing them to meet diverse customer needs with one of the industry’s most trusted operating systems.

New Tool for Converting Containers to Virtual Machines

One of the standout features of this update is the introduction of the c2v-convert tool, which efficiently transforms system containers into virtual machines. This capability is particularly valuable for service providers who want to consolidate and simplify their virtualized infrastructure:

  • Upgrading Obsolete Operation Systems: Service providers can now convert legacy containers to optimized VMs, reducing the need to maintain containers on outdated OS versions.
  • Efficient Conversion Process: The c2v-convert tool supports interactive mode for testing and batch mode for mass conversion. This conversion is quick, typically requiring just minutes and incurring minimal downtime.
  • Future-Ready: Moving to virtual machines allows providers to prepare for upgrade to Virtuozzo Hybrid Server 9, which runs on a RHEL9-based hypervisor. It also facilitates a transition to Virtuozzo Hybrid Infrastructure, our OpenStack-based cloud platform.

For full guidance on using this tool, please refer to our c2v-convert documentation.
