Virtuozzo Hybrid Infrastructure 7.1: Automated Resource Balancing and Simpler Upgrades for Service Providers

Virtuozzo Team | September 24, 2025 | IaaS, Product Updates | Virtuozzo Hybrid Infrastructure

The new 7.1 release of Virtuozzo Hybrid Infrastructure (VHI) focuses on smarter workload management for service providers. With automatic live migration policies, resources are balanced dynamically across nodes, helping providers use hardware more efficiently and deliver steady performance for customer workloads.

See below for details on this feature and the additional improvements in 7.1 update.

Dynamic Resource Policies with Live Migration

Virtuozzo Hybrid Infrastructure 7.1 introduces resource policies with live VM migration — one of the most requested features from partners. These policies automatically redistribute workloads across compute nodes, improving efficiency and performance without manual intervention.

  • Dynamic distribution – spreads virtual machines across nodes to prevent CPU and RAM bottlenecks and maintain stable performance.
  • Dynamic consolidation – places tagged workloads onto the minimum number of nodes, a useful option for licensing optimization or specialized environments.

By applying these policies, service providers can make better use of hardware and reduce operational overhead, while customers benefit from steadier, more predictable workload performance.

Cumulative Updates

Upgrades are now faster and easier. Clusters on version 6.2.1 or later can now upgrade directly to 7.1 in a single step.

  • Skip intermediate versions – move straight to the latest release
  • Reduce maintenance windows – fewer upgrade stages to plan and execute
  • Lower upgrade risk – less chance of disruption or configuration errors

This cumulative model keeps infrastructure current without unnecessary downtime, overhead, or complexity, while ensuring a smoother lifecycle for customer workloads.

Additional Enhancements

  • Windows 11 and Windows Server 2025 support, with vTPM, Secure Boot, and UEFI enabled by default.
  • SMB 3.0 file shares for high-performance access and Active Directory integration in Windows environments.
  • Expanded S3 monitoring metrics offering more detailed labels and granularity for improved observability in Grafana.

How to Upgrade

Virtuozzo Hybrid Infrastructure 7.1 is available now. Partners running version 6.2.1 or later can upgrade directly by following these steps:

  1. Go to SETTINGS > UPDATE in the admin panel.
  2. Start the upgrade process.
  3. Nodes will reboot automatically, one at a time.
On clusters without redundancy, storage services and the admin panel may be briefly unavailable during the process.

Partners running versions 6.1 or older need to upgrade to 6.2.1 first.

See the 7.1 Release Notes for full details.
