6.1 Stable Release Notes

7 August 2019

We are happy to introduce Virtuozzo OnApp 6.1 (6.1.0-212). This document lists features, improvements, and fixes implemented for all available Virtuozzo OnApp components within the 6.1 Edge 1, 6.1 Edge 2, or 6.1.

Before You Upgrade

You can upgrade to Virtuozzo OnApp 6.1 from Virtuozzo OnApp 5.5, 6.0, 6.1 Edge 1 or 6.1 Edge 2. For details refer to the Upgrade Guide.

Highlights

Here you can find the key features that we deliver as a part of Virtuozzo OnApp 6.1. You can also check other features and improvements and see the list of issues resolved in Virtuozzo OnApp 6.1.

New UI

New Virtuozzo OnApp user interface design is better thanks to avoiding over-loaded menus and pages. This version of the user interface is more natural and helps to improve the user experience in general. All the components on the left sidebar are logically grouped into five separate tabs to facilitate navigation.

Backup Server Support for Local Datastores

With introduction of backup server support, you can restore backups of the VS running on compute resources with the local datastore. It allows you to use local storage for better speed and performance. Previously, restoring backups was impossible as local data stores were not recognized by the backup servers.

Virtual Routers

Virtual routers, a new type of virtual servers, are another part of improved Virtuozzo OnApp networking model. Virtual routers allow users to setup routing for their private networking without asking cloud owner. After converting virtual servers to virtual routers, users can manage their IP nets routing on their own.

Private Networks

Virtuozzo OnApp networking model has been improved with the introduction of networks. This functionality allows users to manage their private networks independently from the cloud owner. It saves time spent on end user networking configuration and provides an additional level of security for private networks as all traffic inside SDN is isolated.

Integrated Storage on Static Compute Resources

Previously running integrated storage on CloudBoot compute resources was the only option that Virtuozzo OnApp users had. Now they can run integrated storage not only on CloudBoot but also on static compute resources. Enabling this functionality is available for new static compute resources.

IP Reporting

IP reporting gives possibility to track the IP history, which is a legal requirement in some countries. With this feature, you can view when the IP addresses were assigned or unassigned to a particular user and so prevent the illegal activity such as spamming or hacking.

TRIM

Trim is a command that enables an operating system to inform an SSD that some blocks of data, such as deleted files, are no longer used and can be wiped internally. The Trim functionality is essential for budget oriented customers who want to decrease SSD (Solid State Drive) wear level by reducing the amount of writes to blocks.

VS Fluidity

Now you can migrate virtual servers between hypervisors that don’t share the same network and so enable workloads portability between hypervisors within any Virtuozzo OnApp cloud. Before this option was available, Virtuozzo OnApp allowed users to migrate virtual servers only between hypervisors that shared the same network.

Clone VS

Cloning a virtual server allows users to create a copy based on the same resources as the origin virtual server. Enabling users to clone virtual servers with a one-click option facilitates the process of managing workloads.

Mass VS Migration

To benefit from the workloads fluidity more, you can now migrate multiple virtual servers at once from one compute resource to another compute resource of the same type (KVM to KVM or Xen to Xen). Before this option was available, users had to migrate virtual servers one by one that might take lots of time and effort for huge workloads.

User’s Permissions Restriction

User’s permissions restriction allows to prohibit a user from creating role with permissions that exceed those that are granted to them. We have also created a non editable, non deletable Admin role for the cloud owner to be able to setup a super Admin account allowing to enable or disable any permission for any created role.

Sharing vApp

Shared vApps with an organization or specific users are now available on Control Panel. When you share your vApp with the organization or specific users and groups on the vCD side, the changes are automatically synchronized to Control Panel. Depending on the access level that you set via vCD, the corresponding users can access shared vApps on CP.

Cross VDC Networks

Added support for cross-virtual data center networks that were introduced in vCloud Director 9.5. Cross-virtual data center networks enable organizations to group up to four virtual data centers and configure stretched layer 2 networks in each group. Users’ org networks that are based on cross VDC model are imported into Virtuozzo OnApp both as a network zone to use billing and as a network within this zone. Users can also create and manage new networks via Virtuozzo OnApp Control Panel.

Auto Import Rules

Users were able to initiate import of vCenter virtual servers to Virtuozzo OnApp manually one at a time. It was not always possible to wait to import virtual servers manually because vCenter resources were already in use and Virtuozzo OnApp didn’t recognize them and could not start billing immediately. Now users can add rules where they can define a logic forautomatic import of virtual servers from vCenter to OnApp.

CORS Easy Enablement

CORS (Cross Origin Resource Sharing) is an industry HTTP header standard that is commonly used in Browser for security measurement. This functionality allows requesting checked and verified code from web font/css/ajax origins. Virtuozzo OnApp users can enable CORS on their CDN resources easily - in just one click instead of writing complex HTTP rules.

Clone vCenter VS

Users can create a clone of a vCenter virtual server based on the same resources as the origin virtual server. Enabling users to clone virtual servers with a one-click option facilitates the process of managing workloads.
